A Little Empathy Goes a Long Way

We all go through tough times, even if we don't always talk about them. Sometimes the hardest battles are the ones no one else can see. That's why empathy — simply caring enough to listen and understand — can mean so much.
Three years ago, I was suffering from terrible mental issues. I was lonely, couldn't sleep, didn't want to breathe. Everything was sad, annoying, and hateful. I knew I was sick, but I had no energy to change anything.
One day, a New Year's card was sent to me. It was just a simple message; she wrote, "Happy New Year! I am always here following you, and I wish you to be happy! Let's grab a drink next time." I cried and realized that I'm not alone.
I decided to take one small step forward. I started talking about how I felt, taking short walks, and letting myself believe that things could change. It wasn't easy, but each choice I made felt like I was slowly building a life filled with hope again.
Now, 2025, I am living without medication and without the weight of pain. Life feels colorful again, the way it used to be. I feel free from those heavy chains, finally able to breathe. And it's all because of the card. Thank you, 汪.
Being there for someone doesn't require perfect words or big solutions. Often, it's the small things: sending a quick message to check in, sitting with a friend in silence, or just letting them know you're there. Those moments remind people they don't have to carry everything alone.
